Pacific Island Resort to Be Raffled Off for $49 a Ticket

Two people who've spent the past 24 years running Kosrae Nautilus, the tropical resort they built from scratch in the island nation of Micronesia, are raffling off their life's work — at $49 a ticket.

Doug and Sally Beitz, both 52, are ready to begin a new chapter of their lives as full-time grandparents, they told NBC's "Today" show.

Neither had any formal training in business or hospitality when they decided to move to the island from the Australian Gold coast in their twenties.

"We always knew in the back of our minds that once grandchildren came, that would be the beginning of the end," Doug Beitz said. It was their oldest son, Adam, who proposed the idea of a raffle.
