Giant Pie Serves 1,500 at Key Lime Festival

A 9-foot key lime pie is the highlight of a Key West festival celebrating Florida's state pie.

The pie baked Friday during the Key Lime Festival measured 9 feet 2 inches in diameter. That's a foot bigger than the pie baked during last year's festival.

The pie serves 1,500 and includes the juice from 6,480 key limes, 60 gallons of sweetened condensed milk and 220 pounds of graham crackers.

Key lime pie is believed to have originated in Key West in the late 1800s. The festival also included a pie-eating contest Friday and continues Saturday with the Miss Key Lime pageant.
