Geraldo Rivera Apologizes for Defending Ailes

Fox News correspondent at-large Geraldo Rivera apologized Thursday for his support of former Fox News head Roger Ailes and discounting claims of sexual harassment made by former network anchor Gretchen Carlson.

Rivera wrote on Facebook that "it became apparent that Gretchen was not alone in alleging abhorrent behavior behind his closed doors."

He apologized for his "skepticism" and said victims of harassment "deserve the presumption of credibility."

"The man we knew as the blustering genius who invented our mighty Fox News Channel is a deceitful, selfish misogynist, if the charges against him are true," Rivera said. "And if they are true, then his shame and banishment are well earned."

Rivera said his past support for Ailes has resulted in HarperCollins choosing not to publish his memoir.

He also apologized for denigrating New York magazine writer Gabriel Sherman, saying the reporter "is on the right side of history."
