Brooklyn Woman Killed in Fall From Ski Lift

A Brooklyn woman died after falling from a chairlift at a ski area in the Catskills, authorities say.

Olga Filkin, 44, was on a lift at Hunter Mountain in Greene County with the safety bar engaged when she fell off around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to state police.

Filkin fell about 22 feet to the ground, according to the resort. She had taken the lift about 100 feet up the hill when she fell.

Filkin fell from the "D" lift, a triple chair that carries skiers from the base of the mountain to a point about halfway up, according to the resort.

She was treated at the scene by ski patrol and brought to the resort's first aid room, where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was conducted and St. Peter's Hospital, state police said. Her death was ruled accidental and consistent with a fall.

In a statement, the president of the resort called the woman's death a "terrible tragedy."

Hunter Mountain is located in the northern Catskill Mountains.
