113 Killed as Indonesia Military Plane Crashes Into Hotel

An Indonesian military plane crashed into a hotel in a residential area of the Sumatran city of Medan on Tuesday, killing 113 people, a senior official told NBC News. The C-130B Hercules aircraft, which was built in 1964, was carrying 12 crew members and 101 passengers, Air Marshal Agus Supriatna said. Many of the passengers were military family members, the official said. The 12 crew members on board the plane also died. Just before the plane crashed, the pilot had asked to return to base, "so there must have been a problem," the official told NBC News.
