A man identified by police as a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Zion last week has been arrested, police said.

Alberto Mejia-Arellon, of Zion, was taken into custody Wednesday and is being held in the Lake County Jail on a $250,000 bond, officials said.

Mejia-Arellon on Monday was named a suspect in the crash that killed Francisco Avila-Castro. The victim was found laying in the road in the 2400 block of 33rd Street last week Wednesday.

The suspect vehicle, Mejia-Arellon's orange 2004 Scion XB, has also been recovered, officials said.

Mejia-Arellon is charged with felony counts of failure to report an accident involving death, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, police said. He was also cited for driving with a suspended license and operating an uninsured vehicle.
