Woman Sexually Assaulted Near Metra Stop

Surveillance video from the Metra station and trains may provide some leads, police say

A woman who was sexually assaulted in an alley in west suburban Riverside Tuesday night may have been followed by her attacker from the nearby Metra station.

At about 8 p.m., the attacker grabbed the 47-year-old woman from behind, told her not to scream and sexually assaulted her, police said.

It's not clear if the suspect followed the victim from the train or the train platform, but as a precaution police officers said they'll be in the area of the Longcommon crossing between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. for the next several nights.

Residents who live in the area said they are shocked.

"I don't really want to feel like I have to watch behind my back when I'm leaving the train," said Karie Digonatl, a resident who lives on the same block where the victim was attacked.

The attacker was described as a black male in his 30s. Police are working with the victim to create a composite sketch.

Surveillance video from the Metra station and trains may provide some leads, police said.
