Fire Destroys $800,000 Home in Winnetka

Home was listed for sale by Winnetka-based realtor The Hudson Company

A home on the market for $800,000 was destroyed by fire in the northern Chicago suburb of Winnetka.

Numerous fire agencies responded to the 900 block of Pine Tree Lane at about 9 p.m. Wednesday, said Winnetka Fire Department Capt. Ryan Banks.

The home was fully engulfed, with flames and smoke tearing through the roof, when crews arrived. Freezing temperatures turned firefighters' water into ice that coated nearby trees. A fire spokesperson said, however, that the water supply was fine and did not freeze.

Fire departments from neighboring Glencoe, Evanston, Skokie, Glenview, Morton Grove, Highwood and Wilmette responded.

It took about an hour to get the fire under control, Banks said. No injuries were reported.

The home was listed for sale by Winnetka-based realtor The Hudson Company for $800,000, according to its website.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known remained under investigation early Thursday.
