Two Firemen Injured Battling Garfield Park Fire

Two firefighters were injured fighting a fire that started at a vacant building on the West Side Saturday morning.

The fire started at a residential building in the 4000 block of West Wilcox Street, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor.

Police said the fire started about 7:30 a.m. in the vacant building.

Two firefighters who were injured during the blaze were both taken by ambulance to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, MacGregor said.

One man had back pain and the other firefighter pulled a muscle when a porch partially gave way. No one else was hurt and as of 9 a.m., the fire was out, MacGregor said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
