Carl Edwards Jr. Guarantees Cubs Will Win Game 5

The Chicago Cubs left fans feeling blue after their 5-0 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday, but at least one hurler is confident that the team will win the rematch on Thursday.

That pitcher is Carl Edwards Jr., who gave up a pair of walks that ultimately led to the Michael A. Taylor grand slam that all but killed the Cubs’ hopes in Game 4. After the game, Edwards was far from morose, virtually guaranteeing that the Cubs would be advancing to the NLCS.

“It’s going to be a great game tomorrow,” he said. “I know for a fact that he’s (Kyle Hendricks is) going to be on. We’re just going to go out there, we’ll have fun, and we’ll see you guys in LA.”

If the Cubs beat the Nationals on Thursday night, they will immediately hop on a plane to Los Angeles, where they would take on the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday night.

The Cubs also played the Dodgers in the 2016 NLCS, beating Los Angeles in six games as they advanced to their first World Series since 1945.

In the Cubs’ last three elimination games, they have outscored their opponents 20-12 and won all three contests, as they stormed back from a 3-1 series deficit against the Cleveland Indians in last year’s World Series.
