In a surprising development, the Chicago Cubs will only have one representative on the National League All-Star team, as closer Wade Davis was the lone player to be named to Joe Maddon’s roster.

Davis, who has 16 saves and has posted a 1.93 ERA in 29 appearances this season for the Cubs, will make his third All-Star Game trip in his career after having gone the last two seasons with the Kansas City Royals.

The Chicago White Sox will only have one representative in the game as well, with outfielder Avisail Garcia being named a reserve player for Terry Francona’s American League squad. Garcia is hitting .318 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI this far for the White Sox, and he will make his first All-Star Game appearance next week in Miami.

After being beaten out by Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in National League voting, Cubs slugger Kris Bryant will not be heading to Miami. The reigning National League MVP is hitting .264 with 16 home runs and 32 RBI this season, but he was beaten out by several players, including Arizona Diamondbacks star Jake Lamb, for a reserve role. 

Fans will have an opportunity to vote for Bryant, however. He will be part of the "last man in" voting ahead of the game, competing against Mark Reynolds, Justin Turner, Anthony Rendon, and Justin Bour. 

First baseman Anthony Rizzo, who lost out to Ryan Zimmermann of the Washington Nationals in fan voting, will not be on the roster in his hometown of Miami for the game.
