The University of Chicago was rated among the nation's top universities in the latest list compiled by US News & World Report, out Tuesday.
The university, ranked at No. 5, was the only local university in the top 10, which was led by Princeton University. Northwestern University made the last at No. 12, while the University of Notre Dame took the 18th spot. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was listed at No. 41.
The much-watched list ranks colleges based on selectivity, retention and graduation rates.
Northwestern and the University of Chicago are both included on the "Best Value" lists. Loyola University Chicago is, interestingly, included on the "Most Debt" and "Best Value" lists, an angle covered in depth in a Chicago Tribune report.
