U of C Students, Staffer Robbed in Rash of Incidents

Campus officials said there have been three incidents since last Thursday

Security patrols were increased around the University of Chicago campus on Wednesday after a rash of robberies involving students and staff in the last week.

Campus officials said there have been three incidents since last Thursday along South Harper Avenue between East 57th and East 58th streets. The most recent robbery taking place Tuesday. The victims include two students and one staff member, and police said they believe all are connected.

In each incident, two people approached their victims and implied they had a gun. Stolen were wallets and phones and in one incident, a car.

"The most important observation is that [the victims] were alone. That is the thing. That is what they're looking for," said Asst. Chief Fountain Walker.
