Charges Filed in UIC Hospital Shooting

Shooting in UIC Medical Center parking garage put entire facility on lockdown for several hours

First-degree murder charges were filed Saturday against a West Side man who police said shot and killed his ex-wife in the parking garage of the University of Illinois Chicago Medical Center a day earlier.

Earl Roberts, 47, of the 5000 block of West Adams Street was charged with killing Angela Bonds-Roberts, 48.

The early-morning shooting put the hospital into lockdown for several hours. Roberts, a 15-year employee with knowledge of the medical center and its network of underground tunnels, fled after the shooting, authorities said.

He was ultimately found and arrested after a chase, police said.

Roberts is scheduled to make an appearance in bond court on Sunday.
