A string of robberies on the popular 606 bike trail has residents on high alert, and police are warning about the thefts.

According to police, the thefts have occurred when two men shoved people off of their bikes on the trail. In the first two incidents, the victims suffered injuries when they fell off their bikes, and in the latest incident on Sunday morning, the thieves were armed with a black handgun and beat the victim before demanding his belongings.

The three incidents have occurred within the month of July:

    -July 2: 1:15 a.m. at 3510 W. Bloomingdale

    -July 22: 5:29 p.m. at 3300 W. Bloomingdale

    -July 23: 4:30 a.m. at 1850 N. Ridgeway

One of the alleged thieves is described as an African-American man wearing a “doo-rag” and a brown long-sleeved shirt, and the other man, also African-American, has short hair and is wearing a white t-shirt and jeans.

Police recommend that residents and trail users be aware of their surroundings, pay special attention to any suspicious persons, and to call 911 immediately if they spot the alleged thieves.
