Tim Tebow’s NFL career may be all but over, but the former quarterback isn’t willing to let his dreams of sporting glory die.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Tebow is looking to pursue a career not in football, but rather in professional baseball. Schefter reports that Tebow has been working out in Arizona with coaches to get ready to make the jump into the world of baseball, and he’s hoping to host a showcase with MLB teams later this summer.
With the revelation that Tebow is looking to start a career on the diamond, one local baseball team has offered him a contract, as the Frontier League’s Schaumburg Boomers are offering him a chance to play in the outfield.
“We’re looking for an athletic outfielder who can bring some leadership and competitiveness into the clubhouse,” Boomers manager Jamie Bennett said in a statement. “Tebow brings all of those characteristics and then some. I think he’d be a great fit here in Schaumburg.”

While the Boomers are not affiliated with a Major League team, scouts still do come out to their games, and Boomers General Manager Pete Laven cited the scouts’ presence as an incentive for Tebow to sign a deal with the team.
“I understand that Tim’s ultimate goal is to make it to the Major Leagues, just like every other guy on our team,” he said. “With our proximity to Chicago and the fact that major league scouts come through our park on a regular basis, I think this is the perfect situation for Tim to showcase his skills in a game situation.”

While Tebow’s quest to become a big leaguer is probably a long shot, there’s at least one former player that thinks the quarterback has what it takes to play:
Tebow was an All-State baseball player in high school, according to Schefter, so he does have some experience in competitive ball. Whether that translates to the present day is another story, but with Sheffield’s endorsement and a Boomers contract awaiting his signature, there are plenty of people who think he’s taking a real shot at it.
