The all-clear was given just after 9 p.m. after a "suspicious" package was found on the University of Illinois Chicago campus.
UIC police spokesman Bill Burton said the item was deemed not to be a threat.
Burton said an employee of the University of Illinois Medical Center saw a package near a newspaper box near 909 S. Wolcott Ave. and reported it to campus police.
A building, known as the College of Medicine West Tower, was evacuated as a precaution and police Bomb and Arson officials were investigating. Officials cleared the incident as of 9 p.m. and people are being allowed back into the building, which is mainly used for college offices, Burton said.
He couldn’t immediately say what the package was and a Chicago Police spokeswoman had no immediate information about the incident.
John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County is nearby but was not affected.
