Police Continue Search for Suburban Hit-and-Run Driver

Police continued to search Monday for a hit-and-run driver who authorities say struck a little girl riding her bike in the western suburbs.

According to police, the crash occurred just after 1 p.m. on Geneva Avenue near its intersection with Courier Avenue in unincorporated St. Charles Township.

Police said that the investigation found that a black Dodge pick-up truck was traveling down the street when it struck the 7-year-old girl, who was riding a bicycle at the time of the crash.

The girl was airlifted to Lutheran General in Park Ridge with potentially life-threatening injuries, according to police, who said that her condition was improving Monday morning.

The driver fled the scene of the crash, and the truck was found abandoned a few blocks away, police said. A massive police search took place near the Fox River as authorities searched for the driver, who was believed to have fled the vehicle on foot. Sheriff's deputies said the suspect was seen jumping into the river and then later running through backyards in the area.

The driver was described as a white male, standing around 5-foot-6 and weighing around 120 pounds. He has a pony tail and was wearing tan pants, according to police.

Anyone who spots the driver is asked to call 911.
