1 Dead, 5 Wounded in Pair of South Side Shootings

At least one person dead as of 7:30 p.m.

One person was killed and five others wounded in a pair of Friday evening shootings on the city's south side, officials said.

Two people were shot in one incident shortly after 6 p.m. on the 5000 block of South May Street. Both were taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the hand, leg, side and buttocks, and another 19-year-old man was shot in the back. Both were taken to John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County, police spokesman Veejay Zala said.

In the second shooting, four were injured at about 6:20 p.m. on the 4200 block of South Wells Street. One person was killed, police said.

According to Zala: a 38-year-old man was shot in the neck and listed in critical condition at Stroger. A 32-year-old man was shot in the stomach and in stable condition at Stroger. A 27-year-old man was shot in the leg and in stable condition at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center, and a 30-year-old man was shot in the head. His condition was not immediately available.

It wasn't clear, as of 9 p.m., which of the four men died.

Two others were in critical condition at Stroger Hospital and a third was in stable condition at Mercy Hospital & Medical Center.

Names of the victims hadn't been publicly released as of 9 p.m.
