Body of Girl Killed in Boating Accident Recovered

Daniella Rose Vaca disappeared after her mother reportedly drove over the girl's floating tube

The body of a 10-year-old South Elgin girl killed in a boating accident in southwestern Michigan has been recovered.

Daniella Rose Vaca, disappeared in Corey Lake in St. Joseph County, Mich., after the accident at about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Her body was found at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday after a search by divers and a helicopter.

She's the daughter of Cindy Vaca-Terzich and John Terzich of South Elgin. Published reports said the girl was killed when a boat driven by her mother accidentally drove over a floating tube on which Daniella and two other children were riding.

The mother reportedly became distracted by an emergency on board the boat and didn’t realize the boat was turning in a circle that eventually made it collide with the tube. The other two children on the tube reportedly were not injured.

A staff member at the St. Joseph County, Mich., sheriff’s department didn't confirm those details and said no press release on the incident would be issued until sometime Friday.

Daniella is described as a happy little girl who excelled at softball and basketball.
