Free Ice Skating Headed to Soldier Field

Free tickets available Sunday morning at eight Office Max locations across Chicagoland

The Chicago Bears may not have made the playoffs, but that doesn't mean the fun will end at Soldier Field.

The Gridiron next month will be transformed into a massive ice skating rink for two days, Feb. 2 and 18, 2013.

Officials say 3,000 passes will be given out to the public on a first come, first served basis Sunday morning at eight Office Max stores across Chicagoland. Tickets will be passed out at 10 a.m., the Chicago Sun-Times reported. There will be a limit of four passes per house hold.

They'll be available at:

  • Fullerton Plaza: 1829 W. Fullerton Ave., Chicago
  • Rivercrest Shopping Center: 4921 W. Cal-Sag Road, Crestwood
  • Forest Plaza: 6455 E. State St., Rockford
  • New York Square: 4338 Fox Valley Center, Aurora
  • Oakbrook Court Shopping Center: 1500 16th St., Suite C, Oak Brook
  • Grand Hunt Center: 6523 Grand Ave., Gurnee
  • Willow Creek Retail Center: 2211 Willow Road, Glenview
  • Poplar Creek Crossing: 2570 Sutton Road, Hoffman Estates

The free skating will be held Feb. 2 and 18 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For those who don't own their own skates, rentals will be available for $10 a pair.

The event is the first time since the 1930s that Soldier Field has hosted public skating. It's part of the OfficeMax Hockey City Classic Winter Festival, which celebrates outdoor college hockey games being played at Soldier Field for the very first time.

Games include Notre Dame's Fighting Irish versus Miami Redhawks, and Minnesota's Golden Gophers versus the Wisconsin Badgers. Both games will be played on Sunday, Feb 17.
