Officer Shoots Teen in Leg

A Chicago police officer shot a teenage boy in the leg Friday afternoon in the Calumet Heights neighborhood.

The officer shot the 17-year-old in the leg about 3:15 p.m. near East 93rd Street and South Chappel Avenue, authorities said.

The boy was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs.

The officer was not injured, authorities said.

Authorities confirmed a "police-involved shooting," but could not immediately provide the circumstances that led to the incident.

The Independent Police Review Authority and Area South detectives were investigating.
