Dozens of Sex Offenders Arrested in Crackdown

Many found to be noncompliant with terms of probations

Dozens of sex offenders have been arrested after a two-week crackdown by Cook County and federal authorities.

The roundup began the day after National Children's Day on June 13, according to the county sheriff's office.

Authorities checked on 79 registered sex offenders the first week to make sure they were obeying the terms of their probation, the office said.

During the second week, authorities focused on tracking down 80 noncompliant offenders in suburban Cook County, including some who had warrants for their arrest.

Of those 80 offenders, 10 were arrested on 17 different warrants, nine were arrested for failing to register as a sex offender and 20 were recently deported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
