A Severe Thunderstorm Watch that had been issued in parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana has been canceled.
According to the National Weather Service, the watch, which was set to be in effect until 6 p.m. in Grundy, Will, Kankakee, and Livingston counties in Illinois, was canceled.
Ford and Iroquois counties do remain under the watch, as the area remains under threat from severe weather.
Counties in northwest Indiana, including Jasper, Lake, Newton, and Porter, also had their watches canceled. Benton County will remain under the watch, according to the National Weather Service.
Scattered thunderstorms, which are moving through the area this afternoon, could also pose a risk during the evening commute for areas south of Chicago. The slow-moving storms could potentially become severe, with golf ball-sized hail and damaging winds of up to 60 mph, along with heavy rain downpours.
The unsettled weather could continue over the weekend, with showers and thunderstorms possible from Friday through Sunday.
