At least four people were hurt, one of whom received life-threatening injuries, after a plane crashed short of the runway Monday at Rockford International Airport, authorities said.
A two engine King Air aircraft was arriving at the airport when it landed short of runway 25, Tony Malinaro, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said.
NBC affiliate WREX originally reported five people were injured, citing fire officials, but that number was lowered to four.
The FAA and National Traffic and Safety Board will investigate.
"Investigations take several months to a year or more to complete," said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Isham Cory. "This information is preliminary and subject to change as the investigation continues."
No other details were immediately available.
