The Chicago White Sox finished the regular season with a loss to the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, and it was also the last game of Robin Ventura's tenure as manager as he announced after the game that he would not be returning to the position next season.
Ventura, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has spent the last five years with the White Sox. He told reporters after Sunday's game that "it's the right time" to leave after failing to reach the postseason in any of his campaigns with the team.
The team is expected to name bench coach Rick Renteria as the new manager, according to multiple reports.
During his five year career with the White Sox, Ventura finished with a record of 375-435 and only had one winning season, his first campaign in 2012. This season, Ventura finished with a 78-84 record, his best since that season, but it wasn't good enough to convince him to stay in Chicago.
After announcing his intention to leave, Ventura had a matter-of-fact approach to his tenure with the team.
"I know they won't be building a statue of me on the concourse," he said.
Renteria managed the Cubs in 2014, before being let go upon the hiring of Joe Maddon. After a year out of baseball, he was brought on as the White Sox's bench coach following the 2015 season.
