Rizzo, Zobrist Among Cubs' Gold Glove Nominees

The Chicago Cubs may not have made it back to the World Series, but they’ll still be in the running for some impressive offseason hardware.

On Thursday, Rawlings announced the nominees for their Gold Glove awards, given to the best defensive players in baseball.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo was once again nominated for the award after winning it in 2016 for the first time in his career. Rizzo, who also won the Platinum Glove last season in a fan vote, will be going up against Arizona Diamondbacks star Paul Goldschmidt and Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto for the award.

Surprisingly, Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist was also nominated for a Gold Glove, and he will battle Colorado Rockies (and former Cubs) infielder DJ LeMahieu and Miami Marlins star Dee Gordon for that prize.

Finally, Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward was nominated for the right fielder award, where he will compete with Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig and Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Somewhat surprisingly, Cubs catcher Willson Contreras was not nominated for the catcher’s award, which will go to Buster Posey, Tucker Barnhart, or Yadier Molina.
