But an Arlington Heights man who killed his ex-girlfriend's kitty after it urinated on a rug received a less draconian punishment Monday when was sentenced to 30 months of probation and ordered to perform 240 hours of community service work, according to the Sun-Times.
Kevin Colabuono, 25, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty, a felony which could have landed him in prison for three years.
Colabuono was charged in August after his ex returned to her apartment, but couldn't find Riley, her four-month-old kitten.
Colabuono admitted throwing Riley violently to the ground, and then throwing the body in a dumpster.
