No Injuries in Silo Fire at Port of Chicago

Thick, black smoke emanating from the structure could be seen for miles

No injuries were reported following a fire in a silo at the Port of Chicago on the Far South Side on Thursday afternoon.

The fire was on the roof of a six-story silo, at 127th Street near the Bishop Ford Expressway, fire officials said. Thick, black smoke emanating from the structure could be seen for miles.

The fire was contained to the silo and there was no danger of it spreading.

The fire was out at about 5 p.m.
