Police Chase Ends With Crash in Riverdale

Multiple suspects were taken into custody at the scene of the crash, officials said

Multiple people were taken into custody after a police chase that ended in a crash in south suburban Riverdale early Wednesday.

Several agencies, including the Illinois State Police, were involved in the pursuit of a red sedan overnight that stretched from northbound I-57 into Chicago, through the city and onto southbound I-94, a spokesman said at the scene. The car exited I-94 near Dolton, headed west, and was pursued up to the area near the intersection of East 142nd Street and Edbrooke Avenue in Riverdale, officials said.

There, the driver of the car lost control and crashed into a tree, authorities said, and multiple people, male and female, were taken into custody.

The vehicle had been reported stolen but it was not immediately clear from where. Further details, including information about the suspects and the events leading up to the police pursuit, were not available. No injuries were reported in the crash, officials said.

The investigation into the incident remained ongoing Wednesday morning.
