Plane Crashes in Field Near Dwight Airport

The pilot was trapped in the plane, but did not sustain any injuries, according to fire officials

A small plane crashed in a field near the Dwight Airport Wednesday evening, officials confirmed.

The plane was attempting to land at the airport about 80 miles from Chicago when a "mishap" occurred around 7:20 p.m., according to the Dwight Fire Department. It landed on its top about 50 yards past the runway in a bean field, authorities said.

The pilot was trapped inside and rescued by first responders, according to the fire department. She did not sustain any injuries, and no passengers were on board.

The plane is an RV4 aircraft, according to FAA spokesperson Elizabeth Isham Cory. The FAA is investigating the crash.
