Pet Store Owner Says Puppy Stolen Over Labor Day Weekend

The owner said Bella is worth about $2,500, but he’s more concerned for her well-being

A 12-week-old Pomeranian puppy was stolen from a Petland in Naperville over the holiday weekend, according to the store’s owner.

The puppy, named Bella, was being visited by a couple around 4 p.m. Sunday in a so-called “socialization room,” when the store’s owner says the pair slipped out the front door.

“I was shocked,” said owner Carl Swanson.

Swanson said employees discovered the theft Monday, when they did their morning count.

“I was really surprised that people would do that, so boldly, just take a puppy and walk right out of the door,” he said.

Swanson said Bella is worth about $2,500, but he’s more concerned for her well-being.

“They're on a vaccination schedule that we maintain and then once a customer takes a puppy home the vet continues it,” he said. “I'm concerned that whoever took this puppy will not take it to the vet and maintain the vaccinations.”

A report was filed with Naperville police following Bella’s disappearance.

The couple was captured on surveillance cameras and Swanson is asking anyone who recognizes the pair or who may know Bella’s whereabouts to call police.
