Passenger Sues after Suitcase Falls on Foot

Passenger says United Airlines was negligent by allowing overhead bins to be overloaded

They warn you every time: "items in the overhead bins may shift during flight."

Still, a woman says United Airlines is liable after a suitcase stowed in an overhead bin fell on her foot and injured her.

According to a lawsuit filed Monday filed in Cook County Circuit Court, Stephanie D. Sheehan was a passenger on a United Arlines flight between Seattle and Chicago this week when a piece of luggage fell from one of the overhead storage lockers on to her foot, injuring her.

The suit alleges the airline was negligent in allowing passengers to overload the overhead bins.

The one-count suit -- claiming negligence -- seeks $30,000 plus legal fees.
