Popular Softball Coach Fatally Struck in Oswego Hit-and-Run

An angel and a note are nestled Monday in a tree on Plainfield Road near Plainsman in Oswego where the body of 26-year-old Amanda Stanton was found.

"In memory of Amanda Stanton who became an angel on 6/24/2018," the note reads.

Stanton was found on Sunday afternoon. The Kendall County Sheriff's office believes she was hit by a vehicle and the driver took off. Officials wouldn't say exactly when she was hit. The young woman's family was too distraught to talk about her sudden loss, they said.

But, her brother shared on social media that Stanton was an incredible teacher and coach who made the lives of so many better. She was the girls softball coach at Oswego High School and a math interventionist at Jefferson Junior High in Naperville.

"Amanda was one of the best and brightest young women I have had the honor to work with and mentor: she had so much to offer and will be missed by all," Oswego District Athletic Director Darren Howard said.

Both school districts are offering grief counselors for any student or staff member who needs them.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help.
