Woman Shot During Robbery Attempt at Mall

A 67-year-old woman was shot Friday night during an attempted robbery at a southwest suburban Orland Park mall.

The woman was approached by another female in the parking lot of the Orland Square Mall shortly before 9 p.m. The robber told the woman, "Do as I tell you," police said.

A shot was fired and the robber ran away, police said.

It was initially believed the shooter ran into the mall, but a sweep of the building turned up no one. The mall was closed down after the incident.

The woman was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet. Her injuries do no appear to be life-threatening.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black woman with a medium build, according to the release.
