An elderly woman accidentally killed her husband when she ran over him with their car in an southwest suburban driveway Friday afternoon, officials said.
The 70-year-old man had just exited the car to open a driveway gate in the 10800 block of LaPorte Avenue in Oak Lawn when his 70-year-old wife backed the car up and ran him over just after noon, according to Oak Lawn police.
The woman called 911 to report she accidentally hit her husband with the 2010 Toyota, police said in a statement. She told investigators she thought her husband was clear of the car when she began to back up.
The man, who was trapped under the car, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.
The crash is believed to be a "tragic accident" and no charges are expected, according to police.
