Heading North? I-294 Travel May Be Easier Sunday

Fall has arrived, so if you believe that oft-mention joke, it must mean road construction season is winding down.

Jokes aside, anyone heading toward Wisconsin on Sunday via the South Tri-State Tollway will be able to make use of all three lanes for the first time in more than a year.

The Illinois Tollway will shift northbound traffic on Interstate 294 onto newly constructed northbound lanes between 159th Street and 95th Street.

The Rebuild & Widen Project is entering its final stage and all work in the 12-mile corridor is scheduled for completion by the end of this year as part of the Illinois Tollway’s $6.3-billion congestion relief program, the Illinois Tollway said.

Reminder: A 45 m.p.h. speed limit is in effect 24/7 in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present.
