Police Warn North Side Retail Owners of Armed Robberies

Police are warning owners of North Side retail stores of a pair of armed robberies.

The robberies occurred early in the evening in two incidents in December. In both incidents, the offender entered the store, approached the counter and engaged the clerk in conversation. Then the offender lifted his shirt or jacket, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register.

In one incident, the offender took the entire cash register.

The first robbery occurred in the 1000 block of West Granville Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood on December 5 at about 6:55 p.m. The offender is described as a black male, 30 to 40 years old. He is about 5-foot, 11-inches tall and 200 to 240 pounds with short black hair and medium complexion. He was wearing a black Kangol-style cap, a black jacket, black gloves and blue jeans.

The second robbery occurred in the 1900 block of West Peterson Avenue in the West Ridge neighborhood on December 7 at about 6:53 p.m. The offender is described as a black male, 30 to 35 years old. He is about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds with black hair and a medium brown complexion. He was wearing a gray hooded two-tone jacket with a alrge horizontal black stripe across the front, black gloves, dark colored jeans and dark colored shoes.
