Senior Barred from Graduation After Porn Prank

Student's parents want judge to force school to let son graduate with peers

The parents of a New Trier High School student barred from graduation ceremonies for allegedly using school computers to print out pornographic pictures have filed a formal complaint with the court system.

John Matthews' parents are asking Cook County Circuit Court to intervene and allow their son to participate in his senior graduation, TribLocal reported.

Matthews, 18, was given an eight-day suspension from school for disruptive behavior and violating computer policies.  His parents contend the school is counting the school days -- not calendar days -- which means the teen will miss graduating with his peers.

School policy, they said, prohibits the administration from adding additional punishment or changing the consequences.

New Trier High School spokeswoman, Nicole Dizon explained seniors were warned about misbehaving at the end of the school year and could be banned from participating in graduation.

School officials said Matthews on May 18 printed the porn on a school computer and dropped it down a stairwell as a senior prank.
