Dad Charged With Kidnapping Infant Daughter at Gunpoint

Nathaniel Lawson, 22, kicked in a door and took his daughter early Monday, police say

A court hearing was scheduled for Tuesday for a man charged with kidnapping his 4-month-old daughter at gunpoint a day earlier.

Nathaniel Lawson, 22, was charged with one count of home invasion, child abduction, aggravated unlawful restraint and robbery – all felonies - according to a statement from Chicago police.

Lawson was involved in a fight with the child’s mother about 3:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 1100 block of East 82nd Street, and he left the scene after police were notified, according to the statement.

The father, of the 15100 block of South Dorchester Avenue in Dolton, later returned to the home with a handgun, kicked down a door and left the home with his 4-month-old daughter, police said.

Officers later found Lawson and the girl between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., police said. Lawson was arrested and the girl was taken for observation to Comer Children’s Hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
