Break-Ins Near Montrose Harbor Prompt Alert

Chicago police have issued an alert regarding a string of vehicle break-ins and property theft which have occured along the Northside lakefront.

Police said the thieves have been primarily operating between Foster Avenue and Addison Street, with a concentrated focus at Montrose Harbor.

The thieves have been breaking into vehicles and taking any property they can locate, often sifting through glove compartments and accessing trunks through the back seats of the vehicle. If the victims' credit cards are found during the break-ins, the cards are used immediately before being tossed.

Authorities are advising motorists to lock their vehicles and keep their valuables secured in their trunk or on their person. Motorists are also advised to only carry identification and credit cards that are necessary for the day and to notify others about the thefts.

The thieves have not yet been identified, and no description is currently available.
