Father Found Dead After Shooting Wife and Daughter, Killing 1, in Suburban Monee

A 47-year-old man was found dead after shooting two family members, killing one of them, in south suburban Monee Wednesday night, police said.

Around 8:10 p.m., Monee Police responded to a “shots fired” call in the 4900 Block of Main St., a residential neighborhood off Will-Center Road. Upon arrival, officers learned a man had shot two female relatives before driving away to flee the scene, police said.

Monee Police Chief Scott Koerner said officers "discovered two shooting victims and two other teenagers in the home who identified the victims as mother and sister."

"They told officers their father had shot both victims and then fled the scene," Koerner said.

The woman was left in critical condition, but later died after being transported to St. James Health in Olympia Fields. The other, who police say was a 15-year-old girl, remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Roughly an hour and a half later, at 9:40 p.m., authorities were alerted to a possible sighting of the suspect’s vehicle less than 2 miles away, near Will-Center Road and Dralle Road.

Will County Sheriffs Police and University Park Police surrounded the car to find the man dead inside. No other suspects are believed to be involved in the shooting, police said.

The motive of the shooting remains under investigation.

Monee police said the shooting is the first in decades for the southern suburb.

Neighbors said the family had just moved to the community a few months ago.

Authorities said a domestic disturbance call was made from the home in December, but no arrests were made.
