Midway Priest Charged With Sexual Abuse

Father Bede R. Jagoe, 77, allegedly spoke to a 58-year-old man after services on Dec. 11, attempted to kiss him and grab him in an elevator

A 77-year-old priest assigned to the chapel at Chicago's Midway Airport has been charged with sexual abuse after he allegedly made an advance toward a man who attended services before a flight, authorities said.

Cook County prosecutors said Father Bede R. Jagoe spoke to the 58-year-old man after services on Dec. 11, attempted to kiss him and grab him in an elevator.

Surveillance cameras captured Jagoe moving toward the man, prosecutors said.

The man reported the incident to Chicago police after returning home to Kansas.

Jagoe, of the 7200 block of West Division Street, in River Forest, was charged with criminal sexual abuse Saturday. Bail was set at $10,000.

His attorney said his client has been a priest for 51 years. Records show Jagoe is a member of the Dominican Order.

A message left Sunday at their Chicago office wasn't immediately returned.
