Tinley Park Approves Naming Park After Fallen Soldier

A dedication ceremony was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12

A fallen soldier from Tinley Park, southwest of Chicago, will get a new park named in his honor.

Sgt. Michael Sutter died the day after Christmas in 2003 while trying to defuse a bomb in Iraq.

Commissioners from the Tinley Park Park District on Wednesday approved naming a new park, at 8125 W. 171st St., to pay tribute to Sutter.

They said it was "an appropriate way to honor his lifetime of compassionate and committed service to his community and his country," according to the SouthtownStar, which first reported the news.

A dedication ceremony was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 12.

The action was taken after a petition drive collected more than 3,000 signatures.
