Teacher Accused of Molesting 4 Students

There could be more young girls who were sexually abused by their third grade teacher, a prosecutor told a Lake County Circuit Court Judge on Friday.

Manuel Reyes, 55, is accused of sexually abusing four girls at north suburban Raymond Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake Beach.

"We expect there could be additional victims," prosecutor Jason Humke said at a bond hearing in Lake County Circuit Court.

The new information disclosed at the hearing prompted Judge Raymond Collins to raise Reyes’ bond to $250,000 from the original $100,000.

Reyes is accused of abusing the girls between August and late March at the school, where he teaches third grade.

"These children were students," Humke said.

The girls were 9 and 10 years old, a law enforcement source said.

Reyes has taught at the school for six years, officials have said. He was arrested Saturday at his home in Kenosha, Wis., on a warrant charging him with aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

He waived extradition earlier this week and was brought to Lake County to face the charges, which carry a maximum five-year prison term. Reyes remained jailed on Friday.
