A teenage girl with a life-threatening kidney condition got a surprise Monday that will certainly make her holiday season a little brighter.
While most kids this time of year are making wish lists for Santa Claus, 14-year-old Beatrice is hoping for a new kidney.
Helping her forget about that -- if only for a day -- was the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Macy's Grant Child's Wish team, which treated young Beatrice to a day-long shopping spree.
She was greeted like a rock star and could barely contain her emotions when she arrived at Macy's Monday morning to learn that her wish had become a reality.
The Lakeview High School freshman stopped at the Mac makeup counter for a mini-makeover and hit the upper floors for a new wardrobe. And just like a celebrity, she even found her own name on the dressing room door.
Of course, her real wish is a new kidney. Diagnosed three years ago, Beatrice suffers from end stage renal disease, a kidney condition that requires dialysis three days each week.
She's now on a donor waiting list and hopes to one day fulfill her other dream of becoming a police officer.
"I like to protect people," she said.
Make-A-Wish covered the cost of her entire shopping spree.
