Loyola Knocks Off Nevada to Advance to Elite Eight

Loyola's Cinderella run will continue as they knocked off Nevada to advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in over 50 years.

Marques Townes nailed a three-pointer with 6.3 seconds left to seal the victory, sending the Ramblers to their first Elite Eight since 1963.

Townes scored 18 points to lead Loyola's scorers, and Aundre Jackson and Clayton Custer each scored 15 points to help their team advance.

The Ramblers got off to a slow start in the game, going down by 12 points about seven minutes in, but they quickly roared back, ending the first half on a 20-4 run to seize a four-point lead at halftime.

Loyola built up a 12 point lead of their own in the second half, but Nevada wouldn't quit. With four minutes remaining, Cody Martin made an easy lay-up to knot things up at 59-59.

With the Ramblers clinging to a one-point lead with 30 seconds remaining, Townes rose up and nailed a three-pointer to put Loyola ahead. Caleb Martin made a three-pointer of his own with two seconds left to make it a one-point game, but Loyola was able to kill off the remainder of the clock to seal the victory.

The Ramblers will next take on either Kansas State or Kentucky on Saturday night in Atlanta.
