Woman Found Frozen in Northern Indiana Home

Daniel Shoffner, 47, jailed on preliminary charge of murder

A woman's body was found frozen inside a freezer at her northern Indiana home and a man living with her was arrested, officials said.

LaPorte County Prosecutor Robert Szilagyi said the body will have to be thawed out before an autopsy can be done and that he didn't know how long she had been dead.

The woman's name was not publicly released as of 6 a.m.

Szilagyi told The LaPorte County Herald-Argus that the woman was about 70 years old.

LaPorte police found the body after being called to the home Sunday night. Forty-seven-year-old Daniel Shoffner was jailed on a preliminary charge of murder. It wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.

Neighbor Robert Peals said Shoffner had been living with the woman for several months since her husband's death.
