Kris Bryant Offers Thoughts on Cubs' Billy Goat Curse

Chicago Cubs fans are some of the most superstitious supporters in all of sports, but there is at least one member of the team that goes against the grain in a big way.

That player is third baseman Kris Bryant, who has been one of the biggest reasons why the Cubs have gone from cellar dwellers to World Series combatants in a two-year span. Before the team takes the field against the Cleveland Indians Tuesday night, Bryant made it clear that his mind is on baseball and not on Billy goats and black cats.

“This whole goat thing, it’s like: so what? Who cares,” he said. “I’m petting goats. I just think it’s embracing whatever curses there are. No one believes in that. I don’t believe in superstition. I try to change up my underwear when I have a good game, so that there is no superstition. I don’t believe in that.”

Bryant’s level-headed demeanor certainly stands out on a Cubs team that is loaded with big personalities and is known for their “party hard” mentality after wins. Even with all of the background noise that comes with the territory of being in the World Series, Bryant doesn’t seem bothered by any of it, and teammate Rob Zastryzny had a good story to illustrate that point.

“We were all wondering what kind of talent he had, and then he went 0-for-5 with five strikeouts (in his first game),” Zastryzny said. “We were all like: ‘Man, this is Kris Bryant?’

“The next day, he came up here and put on an absolute show, and then he went 2-for-4 with a double in the game. We were all sitting there like: ‘Oh, OK, this guy doesn’t belong here at all.’ Sure enough, he was gone like a week or two later,” he added.
