Kendall Coyne's Gold Medal Win Leads to Epic Celebration Photo

After years of sacrifice and hard work, Team USA star Kendall Coyne finally won a gold medal in women’s hockey on Thursday, and the victory provided one of the most touching photos these Olympics have yet provided.

Los Angeles Chargers offensive lineman Michael Schofield, Coyne's fiance has been in Pyeongchang for the Olympics to cheer her on. Coyne, a Palos Heights native, finally helped the U.S. squad to its first gold medal in women’s hockey in 20 years with a 3-2 win over Canada on Thursday.

After the game, Schofield headed down to the ice and lifted Coyne up in celebration:

The victory was the first the U.S. has scored over Canada in an Olympic game since the gold medal matchup in Nagano in 1998. Canada had beaten the U.S. in the last two gold medal games, including in overtime in Sochi, but were unable to pull off the trifecta as Jocelyne Lamoureux-Morando scored in the shootout to give the American squad the victory.
